Mission : Providing breast health education and breast health services to immigrant women
Purpose & Significance: In order to increase awareness of the risk & facts about breast cancer, peer educators who speak the immigrant women's native languages will conduct workshops and displays at locations that are more convenient with the hard-to-reach groups.
Funding: Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Prairies /NWT Chapter
Partners: This project is a collaborative effort between ASSIST Community Services Centre, Screen Test, Cross Cancer Institute, Canadian Cancer Society and Multicultural Health Brokers Co-op.
Current Communities served by this project: Chinese Communities (Mandarin & Cantonese speaking); South Asian community; Arabic community; Korean community & Vietnamese community.
Services: 1) Free mammogram clinics within the community: with the partnership with the Screen Test, educators will conduct free mammogram screening clinic annually. Locations are carefully chosen within the local community in order to be more convenient for the immigrant women to take the test.** Mammogram Screen Test is a safe radian test for breast cancer detection. It works best on women of 50 years old and above.
