Are you satisfied with your life? How are you feeling recently? Everyone has ups and downs in their life. It's perfectly normal to feel sad or disappointed once in a while. Things like work, family, stress and relationships can make you feel worried or overwhelmed. But if you feel badly most of the time, it may be worth seeing a health professional. Why? Because these feelings might be a sign of depression, which affects one in five Albertans during their lifetime. Take the following quiz to find out if you’re at risk for depression or other mental health problems. (This quiz is for self-awareness purposes. It is not intended to diagnose mental illness. ) Answer these questions in the context of the last few weeks or months. YOUR MOOD 1. Are you feeling sad or blue? 2. Are you more sensitive than usual moody, tearful, angry, etc. YOUR DAY - TO - DAY LIFE 3. Has your appetite or weight changed for no apparent reason? 4. Do you feel less interested in sex? 5. Have you lost interest in activities you normally enjoy? 6. Are you using alcohol or medications more often? YOUR ENERGY LEVELS 7. Do you feel tired or lacking in energy? 8. Is your sleep becoming a problem? (ie. Not sleeping well; having too little sleep or early waking? ) YOUR THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS 9. Are you having trouble concentrating, making decisions or remembering things? 10.Do you feel guilty, or feel responsible for everything bad that happens? 11.Do you feel worthless or wonder why others even like you? YOUR FUTURE 12.Do you feel hopeless or overwhelmed with your life? 13.Do you think life is just not worth it or that suicide is a way out? CHECK YOUR SCORE If you answer YES to five questions or more, you should consider seeing a health professional. You might have depression or another mental illness.
