Free English language learning opportunities for newcomers and community members at different levels of English proficiency.

ECALA Funded Learning Programs

Through a variety of classes designed to meet learners’ diverse language needs, our ECALA-funded programs help participants overcome language barriers and develop practical English skills for everyday life, communication, and digital literacy.

By improving speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, learners can build confidence to:

English Language Learning (ELL) Essential Classes

We offer classes at different levels to support learners from beginner to advanced levels:

ELL Essential Classes Level 1 (Beginner CLB 1 / CLB 2)

Build foundational English skills for everyday communication.

ELL Essential Classes Level 2 (Basic Level CLB 3-4 Low)

Develop practical English skills for daily life and community interactions.

ELL Essential Classes Level 3 (Intermediate Level CLB 4 High /CLB 5 Low)

Strengthen communication skills for more complex everyday situations.

ELL Essential Classes Intensive (Intermediate to Advances Level CLB 5 High to CLB 7)
Improve English proficiency for employment, education, and broader community participation.

Program Period: September – June

Schedule:

  • Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (All levels)
  • Tuesdays: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (ELL Intensive only)

 

Location: In-person classes at the ASSIST LINC Building

Eligibility: Everyone is welcome! These classes are free of charge.

Daily English for Beginners

Free online English classes designed to help Chinese newcomers build confidence and improve their everyday English communication skills.
Our Daily English for Beginners program offers a variety of weekly classes tailored to different learning levels. The courses focus on practical English that participants can use in daily situations, helping them communicate more confidently, access community resources, and successfully adapt to life in Canada.
Class Levels & Schedule

Sessions:

  • Fall Session: September – December
  • Winter Session: January – March
  • Spring Session: April – June

 

Delivery Format: Online classes via Zoom

Eligibility: Everyone is welcome! Classes are free of charge.

Language Support: Lessons are delivered in English with Chinese language support to help beginners learn more effectively.

Digital Literacy Class

Build your confidence and skills to navigate the digital world safely and effectively.

The Digital Literacy Class is designed to support English language learners in overcoming digital literacy barriers. This course helps participants develop the knowledge and skills needed to use digital devices, online tools, applications, and platforms more confidently for everyday life.
